SpecteX

SpectX is a robotics and inspection company specialized in autonomous, non-destructive defect detection using synchronized multi-drone aerial radiography, based in the Netherlands.

SpectX plays a key role in the area of UAV platform design, autonomous flight software development, and AI-based defect detection. It oversees the development of mission director software that synchronizes UAV navigation with sensor operations and carries out field testing and validation of the AeroNex platform.

As the project coordinator, SpectX brings in its project management experience to provide overall strategic direction and oversees the execution of work packages according to the timeline, budget and quality standards.

NORCE Research

The main objective of NORCE within the AeroNeX project is to develop a multimodal AI model capable of automatically detecting and characterizing hidden defects in critical structural components of wind turbine blades by integrating complementary information from multiple sensing modalities. These include X-ray attenuation maps, ultra-wideband (UWB) radar data represented as radiograms or reconstructed electromagnetic-property fields, RGB images from cameras, and textual descriptions of the acquired signals and observations.

Simis

Simis develops Ashes, software for simulating wind turbines. It models the whole wind turbine (blades, drivetrain, tower, and foundation) together with the wind, the waves, and the control system. It then computes how the wind turbine moves, vibrates, and carries loads in operation.

In Aeronex, Simis is building Ashes DT, a digital twin that combines SpectX’s inspection results, the wind turbine’s operating data, and Ashes simulations. The aim is to turn what an inspection finds into an engineering assessment: how a defect such as a delamination affects the blade’s stiffness, vibrations and loads and the wind turbine’s power production, and in the end, how much fatigue life is left.
